A Note from the president
– After
years of observing organizations struggle with lean manufacturing
implementation, I founded Basic Lean, Inc.
I saw firsthand that the inability to implement and sustain lean
principles was a result of the basics not being in place within the
operating system. There
are many that feel reinforcing the fundamentals is not the answer to
operational inefficiencies and so continue going forward at any cost, only
to realize that what they are attempting is not working. Let’s Take Baseball – or any Sport for that MatterEvery
year at spring training, players are taught how to slide, how to square
around to bunt, how to swing, how to throw – or in other words the
fundamentals – the basics.
When
team managers are interviewed after losing a game, the general reason
given for the loss is, “We didn’t do the basics.” When
Tiger Woods is asked why he didn’t win, his usual response is that he
didn’t have his “A” game – he didn’t follow the basics. Today,
many business leaders are so focused on the bottom-line that they lose
sight of what must be done consistently in an organization to be efficient
in its operation – the basics. Basic
Lean, Inc. advances the organization through the lean transformation by
ensuring the basics are understood and become the standard, and
then and only then do we take the next step to develop the total lean
enterprise.
